The Porte de Hal / The "parvis" and his market

St Gilles is a favourite among those expats who like to live like the locals. Ideally located in a lively area in the heart of Brussels, 500 meters from the Gare du Midi, 2 steps to the Sablon and Avenue Louise known for its prestigious shops, the Porte de Hal is the last remnant of the second medieval city walls of Brussels. It was converted into a museum from 1847.

The "Parvis", located 2 steps away from the residence, is the cultural heart of Saint-Gilles. It hosted by the daily market and cafes, this blend wich is the Saint-Gilles people. The market is a reflection of the population at two levels. Weekdays, the space between the front of the Saint-Gilles church and the square of Moscow is covered with variety of colors and flavors market stalls. The weekend, it expands and offers fine food.

I stayed at this studio for a period of 20 months. It is the perfect size for a single person with every amenity that you would require. The area has a number of supermarkets, newsagents and local markets every weekend. It is also very close to the centre and shops. The landlord is extremely helpful and always available if you have any queries. I would highly recommend the studio to anyone wanting to stay in Brussels short or long-term. Mona M. UK
